Spina Bifida (open back) is a congenital condition characterized by the failure of one or more vertebrae to close. Shortly after birth, the back is closed, but problems resulting from Spina Bifida persist throughout life.

Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) is caused by an imbalance between the production and absorption of cerebrospinal fluid. Surgery is required to regulate the drainage of excess cerebrospinal fluid.

what-is-Hydrocephalus

People with spina bifida have varying degrees of problems with movement (motor) and sensation (sensory). They rely on aids due to mobility issues (wheelchair, orthopedic equipment) and incontinence (catheterization, bladder and bowel irrigation). People with spina bifida usually require lifelong care and medical follow-up.
